The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are recruiting a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Industrial Products team.

The role is under our regulatory mandate for market surveillance of industrial products encompassing our activities under product safety legislation including machinery, personal protective equipment, gas appliances, pressure equipment, transportable pressure equipment, ATEX, Lifts and lifting equipment. The role involves the market surveillance of products and enforcement of compliance with the European Communities Acts, the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act and the relevant legislation governing industrial products.

The role also consists of participation in and support of EU wide enforcement market surveillance campaigns. The Inspector will be working as part of a dynamic team and contributing to the performance of Competent Authority functions under EU and national legislation. This role may also require

some EU travel.

Key Responsibilities:

The following non-exhaustive list of tasks are those that a Grade III Inspector could be assigned. Please note that the final set of tasks will reflect the role the person is offered: 

• Contributing to the Authorities Competent Authority inspection and market surveillance related functions.
• Carry out inspections, audits and market surveillance of products up to and including enforcement action.
• Conduct assessments of products, including online (documentary checks, screening analysis/testing).
• Input and participate into national and EU coordinated product enforcement projects.
• Monitor and follow up of Safety Gate alerts.
• Undertaking risk assessments for high hazard “serious risk” industrial products.
• Ensuring the accurate and timely entering of information and data onto the relevant information technology platforms.
• Developing, maintaining and providing technical expertise related to industrial products regulated by the Authority.
• Participation in European meetings and working groups.
• Supporting awareness raising activities, engaging with relevant stakeholders and representing the Authority at meetings with stakeholders, as required.
• Contributing to the development of guidance, policy and procedures.
• Researching technical queries to support the activities of the Authority’s contact centre.

This post requires flexibility and accordingly, in addition to the above responsibilities, an Inspector Grade III must be prepared to undertake other work and responsibilities in accordance with the operational needs of the Authority.

Essential Criteria:

In addition to demonstrating that you possess the required competencies, the ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Primary degree (NFQ level 8 or equivalent) in engineering, science or other appropriate qualification relevant to the role.
• Minimum of two years relevant experience in a regulatory, industry or a post graduate setting.
• Possession of a full driving licence (Category B).

Desirable Requirements:

In addition to the above essential requirements, it would be a decided advantage for candidates to have one or more of the following:

• Familiarity with industrial products compliance regulation under the Authority’s Remit (e.g. machinery, lifting equipment etc.).
