About the Role
We have vacancies for Inspectors at Grade III level in the Authority under our chemical regulatory and competent authority mandates for the storage, supply and transport of chemicals and other dangerous goods by road (ADR). The Inspector will be working with a dynamic team undertaking inspection and enforcement activities under the ADR and national regulations for the carriage of dangerous goods by road, and in contributing to the performance of competent authority functions under national regulations, ADR and the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive (TPED). This role may also require some EU travel. The following is a non-exhaustive list of key accountabilities that are typically allocated, but are not limited to, the role:
Key Responsibilities
- Contributing to the HSA’s competent authority inspection functions for the storage, supply and transport of chemicals and other dangerous goods by road (ADR) including Transportable Pressure Equipment (TPE).
- Carrying out and recording vehicle and premises inspections under the ADR legislation up to and including enforcement action and the issuing of fixed payment notices as appropriate.
- Carrying out and recording product assessments and market surveillance inspections under TPED, as required.
- Following up on accidents, incidents and complaints reported to the HSA.
- Ensuring the accurate and timely entering of information and data onto the relevant information technology platforms.
- Developing, maintaining and providing technical expertise related to the transport and storage of dangerous goods and chemicals.
- Supporting awareness raising activities, engaging with relevant stakeholders and representing the Authority at meetings with stakeholders.
- Researching technical queries to support the activities including responding to queries received by the Authority’s Chemicals Helpdesk and Contact Centre.
- Participation in team meetings and contributing to the development of guidance, policies and procedures when required.
Essential Requirements
In addition to demonstrating they possess the required competencies as set out in appendix 1, the ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Primary degree (NFQ level 8 or equivalent) in science, engineering or other appropriate qualification relevant to the role.
- Minimum of two years relevant experience in a regulatory role, industry or a post graduate setting.
- Possession of a full driving licence (Category B)
Successful candidates will be placed on a panel from which appointments will be made. Vacancies will be offered to candidates based on the order of merit from the interview process. Any panel formed as part of this campaign, will expire 12 months from its establishment.
