- Monitoring, inspecting, and auditing EPA regulated facilities;
- Assessing, analysing, and reporting on environmental data including preparing national reports on environmental quality and sectoral trends;
- Carrying out Environmental Impact Assessments and appropriate assessments;
- Assessing and processing authorisation applications for Industrial, Waste, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), Dumping at Sea, Urban Wastewater, Combustion Plant and Green House Gases (GHG), end-of-waste, by-product notifications, EU-Emissions Trading Scheme, historical landfills or equivalent;
- Responsibilities could also be in areas such as: market surveillance, chemical regulation, environmental monitoring and assessment;
- Development and delivery of technical guidance and/or training relating to stakeholders;
- Enforcing licence conditions and/or regulations in sectors such as industry, waste, waste water, drinking water and radiological protection including participating in legal proceedings;
- Collaborating with other regulators, non-government organisations, advocacy groups and the public, at national and European level.
- Managing staff and fostering EPA values in teams;
- Supervising, motivating, and developing staff through a performance management and development system (PMDS);
- Managing other resources, including contract tendering/procurement and contract management;
- Contributing to development and delivery of office work programmes; including budget preparation, management and control;
- Preparing and presentation of high-quality reports and information for Internal and external stakeholders
- Engagement with external and internal stakeholders on relevant matters;
- Adhering to Health and Safety Protocols;
- Engaging in relevant EPA cross-office activities.
Candidates must have on or before 4:00pm on Thursday 28th August 2025:
1. An appropriate degree (NFQ Level 8) in Science or Engineering or a relevant post graduate qualification (NFQ Level 9).
2. A minimum of two years relevant work experience, preferably in a regulatory environment/role, including one or more of the following:
a. Demonstrated experience in the critical review and assessment of complex environmental technical reports and applications; or
b. Experience conducting environmental audits and inspections and/or enforcing licence conditions/regulations; or
c. Demonstrated experience of interpretation and implementation of relevant Irish & EU Environmental Legislation; or
d. Demonstrated experience in preparing technical reports, papers, guidance, data and or regulatory assessments.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical and/or environmental information in a clear and concise manner to a range of audiences.
4. Proven track record delivering as part of a high-performance team and sharing technical knowledge and expertise.
5. Driving Licence - Applicants should at the date of applying hold a full valid Irish /EU licence, for Class B vehicles, or a licence acceptable to NDLS for transfer to full Irish licence.
